Axelar: How to Bridge Between PoW, EVM & IBC chains

Episode Summary

✨ About Axelar ✨ Building compatibility between the fundamentally incompatible. To date, the model that is used to bridge Bitcoin for DeFi usage has largely relied on trusted bridges, e.g. WBTC, Liquid, or via CEXs. There hasn't been any trust-minimized bridge delivered to date that would enable the swapping of BTC, and Bitcoin-like coins, on L1 without going through centralized gatekeepers—that is, until Axelar. Sergey Gorbunov, the founder, will join us in this episode to explain how Axelar will be an important building block that will enable trust-minimized bridging of Nakamoto consensus chains that have UTXO sets (Bitcoin paradigm), rather than accounts (Ethereum paradigm), like BTC, HNS, and DOGE, to be bridged into a fundamentally incompatible system like that of Cosmos' PoS ecosystem. Axelar is building a decentralized network and tools that connect users, assets, and dApps across multiple blockchain ecosystems. The network empowers developers to build on the best platform for their needs while leveraging the Axelar stack to unlock cross-chain composability and liquidity. Axelar Network consists of a protocol suite, tools, and APIs, designed to break down the barriers to cross-chain communication. Powered by a decentralized open network of validators, anyone can join the network, use it and build on it. The Axelar Network provides a uniform solution to cross-chain communication, allowing dApps to integrate with the full blockchain ecosystem. Developed by the founding team members of Algorand, Axelar’s co-founders are award-winning graduates of MIT, where they received notable recognition as part of their graduate studies.
